Mauritius was ranked as the most peaceful country in Sub-Saharan Africa by the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2016. Mauritius GPI’s score is 1559 and on a global scale, Mauritius is ranked 23rd out of 163 independent states, ahead of the likes of Spain, Malaysia and Qatar.
The GPI is produced by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP and it is the world’s leading measure of global peacefulness.
This 10th edition shows that the last decade has seen a historic decline in world peace, interrupting the long improvements since World War 2. The deterioration in peace has largely been driven by the intensifying conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa region.
